How to Set Up Apple CarPlay in Your Lincoln

Setting Up Apple CarPlay

When it comes to new vehicle features, one of the most popular options is Apple CarPlay. Fortunately, this feature is standard in new Lincoln models - including the Lincoln Aviator, and it’s easily accessible in vehicles with SYNC 3 and SYNC 4. Apple CarPlay has several apps for entertainment, navigation, and more to make your daily drives and road trips more entertaining and safe.

If you have questions about setting up your Apple CarPlay through the Lincoln SYNC system, the friendly team at Livermore Lincoln near Ulmar and Pleasanton can help.

Using the SYNC System in Your Lincoln Car or SUV

The steps to set up Apple CarPlay in your Lincoln varies based on the SYNC system. Many Lincoln vehicles, like the newest Lincoln Corsair, have wireless Apple CarPlay, so you’ll first need to pair your phone to your vehicle’s Bluetooth. In the SYNC 4 screen, select Phone, then select Add Phone. Using your iPhone’s settings, tap Bluetooth. Then, look for your vehicle’s name on the discovery list. You should see a Bluetooth Pairing Request on your iPhone.

Once you see the request, confirm the PIN and tap Yes at the prompt. Pair your iPhone when “Allow Contacts and Favorites Sync?” appears. Then, tap Allow to download your iPhone contacts to your Lincoln’s SYNC system. Shortly after that, tap Enable after your Lincoln asks: “Use CarPlay with SYNC 4?” If all works as it should, Apple CarPlay should launch on your infotainment screen.

Once your phone is paired to SYNC 4, you’ll need to turn on the SYNC screen and select the Settings icon. Then, choose the Phone List option so you can select your iPhone. Once you’ve done this, select Enable.

If you have SYNC 3, you’ll need an Apple Lightning cable to connect to your Lincoln’s USB port. You’ll need to enable Siri in your iPhone settings, then select Continue after you’ve plugged into the USB port. The first time you use Apple CarPlay with SYNC 3, you’ll have to Agree to the terms and conditions. Then, tap Allow to complete the set up.

Why Use Apple CarPlay

Apple CarPlay seamlessly connects your Lincoln to your iPhone so you use the hands-free system to access useful apps. You can listen to playlists and radio channels, access navigation tools, and receive text messages and phone calls. Apple CarPlay apps can simultaneously, so that you can control your music while an Apple Map is on your SYNC screen. You can also access Siri through your SYNC infotainment system.

Lincolns with model years from 2017 and newer can support CarPlay. You don’t need a data plan in your car to access CarPlay, but you can use your data plan for a better connection to your iPhone.
